Our Approach to Learning

Here at the Academy we believe that a successful curriculum is one based on PLAY and teaches the five essentials: phonics, phonemic awareness, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.

The Academy curriculum also includes life sciences, math, music, and art in a “hands on” engaging format that our students love. Weekly lessons are presented to the students in each subject area and then the children may explore the various other activities in the room. The curriculum focus is always on FUN first. Young children that are having fun will always learn the fastest. We call it the Fun Principle!

Our curriculum allocates balanced periods for reading readiness, computer and writing skills, imaginative play, socialization, music, and of course outdoor and indoor gross motor development. Our indoor gym, which is complete with cushioned floor, makes for a safe and fun place to play. We also offer holiday musical performances, off campus field trips, and in-class guest speakers like The Reptile Man.

Our program is interactive because children learn by interacting with others. We have created an atmosphere where hands-on learning and discovery are an integral part of the learning process.

The most successful teaching approach is one that is tailored to the individual. The small classroom setting allows your child’s teacher to accommodate their learning needs. We have found that by limiting the reading readiness class size to 4 students optimizes learning. Our bi-annual assessment of each child tracks how they excel as an individual, rather than as a class, with a full report made to you about your child’s progress.
